Southwest Virginia COVID-19 Response Force is a group created by local medical students who are working to mobilize volunteers and supplies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects in the southwestern Virginia area. We have been soliciting donations (PPE, supplies, as well as monetary) to distribute at local healthcare organizations. Thus far, we have been able to collect over $6,000 in donations, which is helping us purchase PPE directly from manufacturers and we have collected over 20,000 pairs of gloves, masks, and other supplies to give to medical offices in the area. Our volunteers are involved in community outreach as well, helping coordinate meal deliveries to frontline workers from local restaurants, volunteering through the Medical Reserve Corps (aiding with the epidemiology team, contact tracing, testing, and screening).
